18h Welcome
18h30 1st Session – Michael Schwaenen
Subject: Every LEGO set comes with instructions. Why doesn’t your Power BI report?
Description: Every LEGO set comes with instructions. So why do we ship Power BI reports without them?
In this session, we follow the full BI stack — from business KPI definitions and metric ownership, through Power Query and your Semantic Model, all the way to the Service and the App — and ask the same question at every layer: where’s the manual?

We’ll explore practical documentation approaches using tools like DAX INFO.VIEW, the REST API, Tabular Editor scripting, PBIP, in-report documentation pages. No live demo — just a polished, finished build you can steal inspiration from.
Because good documentation doesn’t start in Power BI. It starts with agreeing on what a KPI actually means.

19h50 2nd Session – Lonneke Opsteegh

Subject: The three layers of dashboard design
Description: Become faster in designing your dashboards by using the three-layer method. Besides faster, your dashboards will have a more professional look and feel, and attuned to your key audience.

The design of dashboards can be split into three layers. Looking at your dashboard in that way, will help you tremendously with creating better dashboards. These are the layers we distinguish:

  •      the overall structure,
  •      a dashboard page/ tab,
  •      and each individual graph.

During this session we go swiftly through the 3 layers. Starting at the overall structure, we will work on building a wireframe to structure the information, getting to know our audience and work on incorporating your company style.

Then we quickly dive to the next layer: the dashboard tab. Where do you place the dashboard elements? Do you use navigation, and what filter type fits your dashboard?

We finish the session on the detailed level of graphs. Everyone has a ‘graph-vocabulary’: most people have 5 to 7 graphs that are top of mind. However, there are hundreds of graphs that can help you communicate your key message. We’ll discuss some graph specials, and focus on how you make your graph as effective as possible with some design choices.
