Power BI User Group Belgium – Event Recap (16th October)

The one where Belgian traffic tried to sabotage us, but Power BI prevailed!

For the 4th time, we bravely gathered for another free Power BI Seminar — because who doesn’t love data and free drinks? This time, our generous host was Nemeon, welcoming us to Kontich with open arms and open fridges.

Now, Belgian traffic clearly got wind of our plans and decided to throw in some chaos. Some attendees spent over 2 hours in their cars just to get there. That’s not just dedication — that’s heroic. Hats off to all of you who fought the traffic dragons to join us!

Once the room was filled with traffic survivors, Luc Debois kicked off the evening with his trademark enthusiasm — the kind that makes you wonder if he runs on coffee or pure passion. Networking? Selling? Luc could probably convince Excel users to switch to Power BI in under 5 minutes. 😊

🍻 Drinks were on the house, courtesy of our lovely hosts — because nothing says “data community” like mingling over a cold beverage.

Then we got down to business. Walter Texeira took the stage to share Best Practices in Power BI. Everything sounded logical and doable… until we realized we might not be doing any of it. 😅 Time to step up our game!

After a short break (and a refill), we welcomed our second speaker, Marjolein Opsteegh — yes, another Dutch expert! (We’re starting to think the Netherlands has a secret Power BI academy.) She wowed us with 10 Tips for Building User-Friendly Dashboards. Again, it all made sense… but our dashboards might still be stuck in 2019. No worries — we’re evolving!

🍕 And then came the pizza buffet. But even while eating, the data talk didn’t stop. Some were analyzing their pizza toppings like they were DAX formulas. You know you’re in the right crowd when someone says, “This pepperoni distribution is suboptimal.” 😂

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us — whether you came from near or far, or just followed the scent of pizza and Power BI.

Special thanks to:

  • Mark Verheyden for hosting on behalf of Nemeon
  • Luc Debois, Pieter Lust, Jan De Wilde, and Wim Verhaege for organizing this data-powered evening
  • Our brilliant speakers Walter Texeira and Marjolein Opsteegh — you made us smarter and slightly more dashboard-conscious!
